MGraphs: An Information Model for Scalable Browsing of Hypermedia

چکیده

Present hypermedia systems typically do not handle well problems associated with the browsing and editing of hypermedia information structures. This is largely a result of inadequacies in the underlying model used to represent the hypermedia information. In particular, current hypermedia models typically do not make explicit the difference between data and information, nor do they consider the broad spectrum of information types used within hypermedia (treating both content and structure as specific types of information). Probably most significantly, current models do not readily facilitate abstraction of either content or structure. In this paper we present the MGraph hypermedia model which is based on the Matilda information framework. This model, derived from the structured graph mathematical formalism, allows manipulation of both the concrete hypermedia structure, but also abstractions of this structure. We describe the underlying mathematics of the MGraph model , and how this formalism supports appropriate editing and browsing of hypermedia structures at any desired level of abstraction. We demonstrate a prototype implementation of a open flexible hypermedia system designed to allow utilisation of MGraphs, and consider how this might be applied to improved browsing of information on the World Wide Web.

Model-based Support for Information Contextualisation in Hypermedia

Provision of context to support the interpretation of information is an important issue for hypermedia. Information with no context loses e ectiveness in conveying its message to the user. Abstraction of information is an important mechanism for contextualisation of information. In hypermedia, abstraction can be used to assist users in locating information and understanding the relationships be...

SemaLink: An Approach For Semantic Browsing Through Large Distributed Document Spaces

Hypermedia retrieval in combination with querying is a very powerful document access metaphor for digital library systems. Conventional distributed hypermedia systems, however, suffer from some well-known problems that make effective, goal-directed document retrieval and maintenance impossible. On the one hand, relationships between documents are modeled on a very low level of abstraction, prev...

Adaptive Hypermedia Using Link Annotation Technology and Recommender Model (ahlarm)

Adaptive hypermedia systems (AHS) combine hypermedia, user modeling techniques and a certain type of artificial intelligence that modifies the structure and contents of hypermedia documents according to each user. Browsing Document Collections: Automatically Organizing Digital Libraries and Hypermedia using the Gray Code

Relevance and economic feedback may be used to produce an ordering of documents that supports browsing in hypermedia and digital libraries. Document classification based on the Gray code provides paths through the entire collection, each path traversing each node in the set of documents exactly once. Systems organizing documents based on weighted and unweighted Gray codes are examined. Relevanc...
